Prison Project

Exeter YMCA’s Prison Project operates in all three Devon prisons (HMP Exeter, HMP Channings Wood and HMP Dartmoor) running our ground breaking personal development and life skills course “Perspectives – Doing Life Differently”.
Reoffending rates are currently at over 60%. Perspectives encourages and allows individuals to make appropriate lifestyle/attitudinal changes by effectively challenging the often complex life issues that underlie their offending behaviour. Our aim is to engage with prisoners “where they are”, and equip them with the necessary tools they need to make a fresh start in their life upon release and reduce their chance of re-offending.The Perspectives course has recently become accredited by the National Open College Network meaning that prisoners who successfully complete the course will receive a formal qualification, often the first in their lives. Last year our Prison Project team worked with over 150 individuals.
